The people we study also stood in a moment in time.
What they were then…
What they decided then…
What they did then…
How they lived then…
How they used, exploited, or conserved the resources available to them—and how they lived within the constraints of their time—are what we study today as history.
Their decisions and actions brought us to this moment. They handed to us the world we inherited.
And that is why studying history matters. Because understanding what they did and why—and what followed—helps inform what we do now.
They couldn't see the ending of their story. And neither can we.
